L&W Engineering has a great opportunity for an experienced Human Resource Manager at our manufacturing facility in Blissfield, Michigan. Strong leadership, planning, and execution skills are required to help us meet our goals. This is a great opportunity to be the face of the Human Resource Team for this location.

Candidate will be responsible for planning and administering policies related to all phases of human resources activity by performing the following duties:

  • Recruits and screens candidates for employment; conducts reference checks, processes offer letters, and oversees onboarding/new hire orientation process.
  • Oversee the maintenance of associate personnel, health, and safety records in compliance with all state and federal laws, and the company's policies.
  • Administers hourly and salary compensation program to ensure compliance and equity within the organization.
  • Contracts with outside services to provide temporary employment services.
  • Prepares step increases for salary staff and hourly associates.
  • Determines bonus eligibility and provides payroll appropriate information.
  • Administers performance evaluation program to ensure effectiveness, compliance and equity within the organization.
  • Maintains job descriptions & organization structure documentation
  • Oversees the administration of all benefit programs. Administers company benefits programs including health, life, dental, 401K, and managed disability (short and long term); counsels associates regarding company sponsored health and welfare plans.
  • Coordinates all associate relations and communications programs such as:
    • Provide counseling to associates (one-on-one, EAP referrals, etc.)
    • Union-free Campaigns
    • Open Communications
    • Associate Morale Surveys
    • EAP Programs
  • Administers Corrective Actions Counsels management regarding associate relations issues involving discipline or termination.
  • Investigates and resolves associate issues, complaints, and requests for separations; make recommendations, and obtain approvals.
  • Advises management in appropriate associate relations issues.
  • Develops and implements human resources policies and procedures to meet organizational needs and comply with state and federal laws.
  • Recommends company practices or policies that will facilitate continuous improvement.
  • Identifies legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Coordinates and conducts management training in legal HR issues (i.e. interviewing, disciplines, sexual harassment, discrimination, etc.)
  • Assess training needs within the company and finds appropriate training necessary.
  • Identifies and communicates career path opportunities
  • Maintains department spending accounts and assists in the budgeting process.
  • Coordinates associate functions (holiday functions, luncheons, picnic, family day, perfect attendance incentives, etc.)
  • Oversees plant-wide safety initiatives to ensure that the plants doing all it can to reduce the number of accidents
  • Maintains various reports and charts.
  • Prepares reports and recommends procedures to reduce absenteeism and turnover.
  • Represents organization at personnel-related hearings and investigations.
  • Drive cost reduction through a systematic approach to identify and eliminate waste with continuous improvement in all processes and products provided by the company.
  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality in all duties.
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities.

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year College or university; or five years plus related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
