Job Description


To develop and foster a safe working environment and to direct, oversee, and actively participate in the creation and implementation of policies and procedures that allow manufacturing to meet quality, delivery, and cost requirements.



The following job/task functions have been identified as the core functions of this position, however, the General Manager may assign additional duties associated with this position.

  • Maintain:-
    • Existing shop facilities and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations.
    • Promote company housekeeping initiatives into daily work habits.
    • Launch and maintain shop floor management visual aids.
  • Support required associate training including; forklift, crane, and LOTO.
  • Support internal and external safety audits and champion closure of open issues.
  • Promote the quality and environmental policies into daily work habits.
  • Develop, execute, and manage quality improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate shop activities to insure all manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost effective manner.
    • Manage internal lead times to ensure on-time delivery at all steps of the process.
    • Oversee master production planning and daily scheduling to optimize resources.
  • Staff, develop, and coach manufacturing employees
    • Oversee, lead, and direct effective problem solving for any issue.
    • Evaluate performance and initiate corrective action as needed.
  • Reporting:
    • Report out progress and job maturation daily to Leadership team
    • Report adherence to schedule thru key milestones attainment targets.
    • Report status to budget
  • Performs all duties and operates machinery & equipment according to MIOSHA standards and company procedures using required safety equipment (gloves, sleeves, ear plugs, etc.)
  • Able and willing to work any shift assigned, weekends and overtime
  • Review design, cost, and timing to formulate a feasible plan to provide all “make” items efficiently and at the lowest cost.
  • Create CAD data and Stock list to get needed quotes from vendors on any items that need to be made overseas.
  • Monitor and ensure that all items ordered are received by the appropriate date.
  • Monitor job labor cost within focus area on a weekly basis and report any overages to the GM.
  • Process timely re-work through the machine shop.
  • Monitor the quality of machine shop products.
  • Monitor machine shop capacity.
  • Monitor perishable tooling usage.
  • Maintain good safety and housekeeping practices
  • Promote teamwork and show a willingness to work with other departments
  • Take initiative to find solutions quickly to problems that arise.
  • Demonstrate good work planning practices in order to do jobs in a very timely, efficient and safe manner
  • Demonstrate self-motivation to continuously improve their job duties and tasks
  • Able and willing to work any shift assigned, weekends and overtime when required.
  • Regular and predictable attendance required
  • Assumes other duties as directed by General Manager


    • Die Group; Die Leaders, Die Makers, Apprentices,
    • Machining group – CNC machinists, Wire EDM Machinist
    • Laser Technicians, Laser Operators
    • Prototype Group; Prototype Leader, and Metal Model Makers
    • General Laborers and Shipping & Receiving Clerk
    • Carries out management responsibility in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
    • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring (recommendations), and training of associates. 
    • Planning, assigning, and directing work.
    • Appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
    • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with other members of management.

Education and/or Experience: 

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or five years plus related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Business Judgment:

Ability to adhere to all company policies and procedures in a professional and consistent manner. Able to apply common sense understanding and use appropriate judgment in routine business situations with supervisor, co-workers and customers.  Maintain the ultimate example of business judgment and professional conduct at all times.  The ability to understand and strictly follow both internal and external business ethics and standards.

Technical Skills:

Ability to work with the following software packages or programs:

  • Microsoft Office at an intermediate level
  • Microsoft Project at a beginning level
  • Effective email and electronic communication skills are required

Ability to work with the following data base programs and/or hardware:

  • QMS database at a basic level
  • QAD database at a basic level
