PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Responsible for installation, maintenance and repair of all machines, equipment, facilities and electrical systems.

JOB/TASK FUNCTIONS:

The following job/task functions have been identified as the core functions of this position.  However, the supervisor or manager may assign additional duties associated with this position.

  • Understands, supports and demonstrates adherence to Company Safety Policies; Quality Policy; Housekeeping and continuous improvement skills.
  • Dismantles defective machines and equipment and install new or repaired parts
  • Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as transformers, wiring and electrical / electronic components of machinery and equipment
  • Repairs machinery and equipment
  • Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction
  • Discusses machine operation variations with supervisors, operators, or other maintenance associates to diagnose problem or repair machine
  • Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment
  • Repairs and maintains physical structure of company facility
  • Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathe, mill, grinder and drill to repair of fabricate machine parts, jigs fixtures and tools.
  • Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts
  • Fabricates and repairs tables, benches, racks and other metal structures
  • Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears and other machine parts
  • Operates Hi-lo truck safely and efficiently and in accordance with MIOSHA and company standards.
  • Operates Overhead Crane safely and efficiently and in accordance with MIOSHA and company standards
  • Works with quality personnel on weld quality and makes adjustments as necessary.
  • Adjusts fixtures to improve function of equipment.
  • Diagnoses and repairs weld equipment.
  • Repairs and resets weld equipment for operation.
  • Helps prepare, follow, and verify set-up parameters.
  • Communicates production problems with the supervisor.
  • Troubleshoots and identifies problems with welders.
  • Performs all duties and operates machinery & equipment according to MIOSHA standards and company procedures using required safety equipment (gloves, sleeves, ear plugs, etc.)
  • Sets up and operates machines tools such as lathes, milling machine, Blanchard and surface grinder to machine parts and verify conformance of machined parts to specifications.
  • Smoothes flat and contoured surfaces to fit and assemble parts together into assemblies and mechanisms.
  • Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances.
  • Perform hand operations involved in producing jigs, fixtures, tools and dies.
  • Able and willing to work any shift assigned.
  • Keeps work areas clean and orderly.
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Education and/or Experience 

High school Diploma or general education degree (GED); two years plus experience, five years preferred. Degree or certification in electrical or mechanical field preferred.

 

Language Skills 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, technical procedures and governmental regulations.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. 

 

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

Business Judgment 

Ability to adhere to all company policies and procedures in a professional and consistent manner. Able to apply common sense understanding and use appropriate judgment in routine business situations with supervisor, co-workers and customers.  Maintain a higher standard of professional conduct and ethics in more complex business situations such as negotiations with customers or presentations to management.

  • All tools necessary to assemble and disassemble machinery (sockets, ratchets,wrenches, air tools, electrical, screw drivers, hammers, measuring, cutting, etc.)

  • Pipe threader, hydraulic jacks, vertical and horizontal band saws, etc.
