Job Description

 *This is a 3rd Shift Position*

  • Perform daily machine startup and shutdown procedures on CNC Laser cutting equipment.
  • Maintain daily Performance Maintenance and associated logbook in assigned area and report equipment deficiencies.
  • Use corporate QAD to document key work activities (e.g. PM, Corrective action information) to ensure information is available for future use.
  • Perform complex set-ups, optimize machine parameters and inputs.
  • Capable of altering simple CNC programs, or adjusting code to work around material obstacles.
  • Experience with CNC control systems and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
  • Ability to read electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics, and mechanical drawings.
  • Proficient with the use of hand tools, power tools, and electrical measuring instruments.
  • Maintain laser fixture tooling with assistance from Toolmakers.
  • Perform maintenance of laser cutting equipment and work area in accordance with company standards and manufactures machine recommendations.
  • Perform all machine alignment procedures for CNC Fiber work cells & Robotic Laser Cell.
  • Modify Laser cutting condition as required to keep equipment at peak operating performance.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Assist in implementation of Continuous Improvement projects.
  • Assist with simulation studies for new and current projects.
  • Obtain thorough knowledge of departmental processes and procedures
  • Help with training of new hires on machine functions and shop processes.
  • Monitor multiple machines simultaneously, if required.
  • Mentors other associates through on-the-job training, sharing of product and process knowledge and providing them with available tools that foster development of short-term capabilities
  • Adhere to Quality, Safety, and Environmental Policies.
  • Respond to calls and requests to tending laser equipment in a timely manner
  • Performs all duties and operates machinery & equipment according to MIOSHA standards and company procedures using required safety equipment (gloves, sleeves, ear plugs, etc.)
  • Able and willing to work any shift assigned, weekends and overtime
  • Regular and predictable attendance required
  • Assumes other duties as directed by supervisor

Education and/or Experience: 

Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


Mathematical Skills:

Basic Skills:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


Business Judgment:

Ability to adhere to all company policies and procedures in a professional and consistent manner. Able to apply common sense understanding and use appropriate judgment in routine business situations with supervisor, co-workers and customers.  Maintain a higher standard of professional conduct and ethics in more complex business situations such as negotiations with customers or presentations to management.
